Jeremy Palmer started with Academic Approach in early 2014. Before joining the Directing Team, he worked primarily as an ACT/SAT tutor, and he’s also spent some time training new tutors and working on creating and editing content with the curriculum development team. While he really misses being able to impact great student growth first-hand as a tutor, he enjoys being able to use his own experiences to help plan and coordinate programs for a much greater number of students as an Associate Director.
Jeremy graduated from McGill University in Montreal with a BCOM concentrating in International Business and Entrepreneurship. After graduation, he spent 15 months teaching in South Korea before spending the next several months backpacking across Asia and the West Coast. Although life at Academic Approach has kept him busy, at one point after graduation he’d been to one country for every year alive.
What aspect of education or teaching are you most passionate about?
“I enjoy seeing the impact tutoring can have on life outside of testing. Obviously the primary goal in our ACT/SAT programs is a highly competitive score, which is tremendously exciting to help within itself, but the impact tutoring can have on the way to go about thinking about things can’t be overstated. I’ve really enjoyed working with students and helping them get to the point that they can find their own errors, identify the thought process they had initially, why it was wrong and how to fix it, and then explain it to me in a clear way. Having a solid grammatical/mathematical foundation is necessary for life, but being able to think logically and explain clearly is just as important. I also love seeing really high scores and, ultimately, hearing about those students getting into their dream schools.” -Jeremy Palmer
