Collin Fields began working for Academic Approach in the summer of 2012. While he started as a one-on-one tutor, Collin quickly became involved in classroom teaching through school programs. It was in this position that Collin truly flourished, and he proceeded to teach as many programs as possible. While he still does occasional classroom teaching, Collin is now an Associate Director for School Programs, where he is able to use his experience to help support both programs and instructors, in order to maintain the high quality of instruction for which this company is known.
Collin earned his B.A. in History from Valparaiso University in Valparaiso, Indiana. After a few years away from school and the Chicagoland area, Collin decided to return to the region and go back to school to pursue a M.Ed. from DePaul University. While Collin is still in the process of completing his degree, he has been exposed to a wide variety of students and classrooms through his work with school programs. This exposure and experience has greatly supplemented his degree, and he is excited to complete his program and combine all of his education and experience to become the best instructor he can be.
What achievement or success story at Academic Approach are you most proud of?
“On the last day of class at one of our schools in Chicago, I had a moment to talk to one of my students before he left the room. His scores had improved slightly throughout the course, but it was clear that he was nervous about taking the official test. We talked briefly about his test strategy, and I did my best to boost his confidence as we were heading out the door. A few weeks later, I received an email from him thanking me for my help and instruction, and that because of our talk, he went into the test confidently and was able to increase his score 4 points higher than he had ever scored before. Not only was I extremely happy for him, but it was also one of my proudest moments as a teacher.” – Collin Fields
