Brian Bullington joined Academic Approach as a 1-on-1 Director in December of 2016. In this role, he meets with families to understand their needs and matches students with the best tutors to help them reach their goals.
Brian earned a B.A. in Psychology and Italian from Indiana University. A love for education has been a defining thread throughout his life. He tutored fellow students in high school, helped run the campus Big Brothers/Big Sisters program in college, and taught English in Italy upon graduation. He then spent 8 years working for — and eventually running — America SCORES Chicago, an after-school nonprofit serving youth on Chicago’s west side. In his free time he co-founded Learnapalooza, a peer-to-peer summer skill sharing festival.
What aspect of education or teaching are you the most passionate about?
“My greatest satisfaction comes from producing moments where my students rediscover the joy in learning. This has come in many forms. A student whose growing skills encouraged them to read their first book for pleasure. Discovering that riddles fascinated and focused a rambunctious player I coached. Students making connection between a classroom topic and an outside experience. We are born fundamentally curious beings; we just have to be reminded of that from time to time.” – Brian Bullington
