Carla Pedersen started with Academic Approach as an ACT and SAT tutor with further specialization in the Math II, Biology, and Chemistry subject tests. Though she loved working one-on-one with students, directly helping them to reach their goals, she is now a member of the directing team. As a Regional Director, Carla collaborates with the instructional staff and works with families to design and implement the best individualized program for their student.
Carla graduated from Cornell University in Ithaca, NY with a BA in Government and a minor in Biology. Carla spent five years of her childhood in Kuwait and a semester abroad in China during her junior year of high school, homeschooling and studying Chinese. While in college, she was an Undergraduate TA in Evolutionary Biology. After graduation, she has tutored for the MCAT, teaching topics such as Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Verbal Reasoning. Previously she worked for the Johns Hopkins University Center for Talented Youth as part of their summer enrichment programs.
What aspect of education or teaching are you most passionate about?
“I love figuring out the puzzle of student growth and achievement. It is not just knowing what the student got incorrect, but knowing how and why they got it incorrect. Only after determining what they did the first time, can you help them change the outcome the next time. Being able to help drive student growth and achievement, and witnessing those ‘a-ha’ moments, is incredibly fulfilling.” –Carla Pedersen
