Katy Steele joined Academic Approach in the fall of 2016 and is currently the Director of Classroom Learning. She works closely with Academic Approach classroom instructors to hone their lesson delivery skills.
Katy studied Political Science and Communication at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. Upon graduating, she moved to Philadelphia as a Teach for America corps member and worked as a high school special educator while earning her M. Ed. in Special Education from Chestnut Hill College. Katy returned to Chicago to teach at a high-performing non-selective charter school for four years where she refined her teaching practices, helped students maximize their annual test growth, and served as the special education department chair for two years. At Academic Approach, she feels fortunate to be part of a team that brings an exceptional curriculum to students across the city in order to help them increase their post-high school options.
What aspect of education or teaching are you the most passionate about?
“I am most passionate about ensuring that all students have access to an excellent education in order to reach their full potential. Instructors should approach their classroom mindful of diverse learning styles with the goal of creating the most inclusive and engaging environment. I have the opportunity to support instructors as they constantly work towards this goal and strive to maximize student achievement for all students in our programs.” – Katy Steele
