ISEE

The Independent School Entrance Exam (ISEE) is often used as part of the admissions process for many prestigious independent schools, such as Dalton, Fieldston, Francis W. Parker, University of Chicago Laboratory School, and The Latin School of Chicago. The ISEE can be taken any time between October and January, during students’ eighth-grade year.

The ISEE is typically administered at the school to which the student is applying, emphasizing the need for students to identify their top-choice schools early enough to schedule their ISEE test dates accordingly. The outcome of this test plays a significant role in the admissions decision-making process at these schools, underscoring the importance of thorough preparation.

The ISEE tests students’ abilities in verbal and quantitative reasoning, as well as their achievement in reading comprehension and mathematics, offering a comprehensive assessment of their readiness for rigorous academic work at the high school level. Achieving a high score on the ISEE can considerably enhance a student’s chances of admission into their first-choice independent school.

Given the critical role of the ISEE in the admissions process for many distinguished independent schools, adequate preparation is key. Early and systematic preparation helps students get comfortable with the test’s format, structure, and question types. At Academic Approach, we provide personalized tutoring programs to help students excel on the ISEE, greatly improving their chances of admission into their preferred high school.
