Unique College Scholarships for Specific Talents and Interests

For most students considering college, one glaring obstacle stands in the way: the price tag. While paying for education might seemlike an impossible task, there are scholarships to be had, and students don’t always need a perfect GPA or a long resume of extracurriculars to qualify. There are many scholarships out there catering to unique talents and interests, and here are just a few to start! 


Evans Scholarship – deadline October 15th 2024

Check out this ace of a scholarship! Established by Charles “Chick” Evans Jr., the Evans Scholarship offers a full ride to college for dedicated caddies. Students who apply should demonstrate exceptional character, excellent academic performance, and financial need. The application process for this scholarship is encompassing, asking students to submit caddy evaluations,recommendation letters, transcripts, and test scores, but if your student meets the requirements, don’t hesitate to apply!

Zombie Apocalypse Scholarship – deadline October 31st 2024

If watching The Last of Us and The Walking Dead has your student trying to hone their survival instincts, ask them to put those skills to the test and consider the Zombie Apocalypse Scholarship. What would they do if their school was overrun with zombies? Would they run or fight? Students must create a survival plan to be considered for this scholarship.

Chick and Sophie Major Memorial Duck Calling Contest – occurring November 30th 2024

It’s a bird… It’s a duck… No, it’s you! If your student has the uncanny ability to sound like a waterfowl, is 16-20 years old, and lives near Stuttgart, Arkansas, consider joining this beloved event for the chance to win up to $5,000 in college scholarships. This contest honors the memory of legendary duck callers Chick and Sophie Major and has prizes for first to fourth place.

I have a Dream Scholarship – deadline January 31st 2025

Does your student sleep a lot? Well, it just might pay off! This scholarship wants to know just exactly what they’re dreaming about.Whether it’s the nightmare that kept them tossing and turning last night or a glimmer of hope for the future, students are asked to write a

250-word essay on their dreams for a chance to win $1,500.

Ocean Awareness – deadline June 9th 2025

Looking to make waves in the field of environmental advocacy? The Ocean Awareness

Contest asks its applicants to meld creativity with a passion for the environment and help bridge the gap between data and reality.For 2025, the theme is “Connections to Nature: Looking Inside, Going Outside” and asks students to consider their role in the natural world. Students are asked to express their story in a variety of different mediums, whether that be through visual art, poetry and creative writing, or multimedia. 

Award Amount: up to $1,000


Beans for Brains – deadline to be determined

Is the pen mightier than the knitting needle? Maybe not! Open to students with a 3.0 GPA or higher, Beans for Brains is a scholarship for those who love to knit and/or crochet.

Applicants can apply by submitting a photo of a project that they have created. Don’t dally though, this scholarship takes a limited number of applicants a year. It is closed for the 2024-2025 season (accepting only 300 scholarships) but 2025-2026 applicants should keep it bookmarked! 

Award Amount: $2,500
