Ohio State University reinstates ACT/SAT admissions requirement!

Another major university is reinstating ACT/SAT scores as part of their admissions process: Ohio State University. Beginning in the 2026 admissions cycle, Ohio State applicants will be required to submit ACT/SAT scores with their applications. However, Ohio State is also rolling out a superscoring policy, in which students may submit the best section scores across multiple test attempts. For example, if a student received a 30 in Math on their first ACT, but a 33 the second time, they can submit the 33 Math score. And so on, for the other section scores.

Once again, we see that a school’s internal review has revealed the value of ACT/SAT scores as a predictor of student success at the college level. Ohio State, like other prominent universities that have returned to standardized testing requirements (for a complete list, click here) remains committed to a holistic review of prospective students’ applications, of which ACT/SAT scores are an important component. While the rigors of high schools across the country differ wildly (making it hard to judge what straight As or a perfect GPA score means from high school to high school), the ACT/SAT provide a stable measure that gives useful context to a student’s application.
